    L'objet de notre mémoire consiste à analyser la fonction d'un mythe à partir de la traduction d'une chronique lao ancienne et de son commentaire, et de procéder à une étude comparative avec d'autres versions ou thèses existantes et de faire une corrélation avec d'autres mythes voisins. Dans la partie I, nous décrirons le manuscrit de la Chronique de Khamkeut et nous analyserons son écriture et son style littéraire. Puis nous dresserons un inventaire des différentes versions ou mythes. Enfin, nous résumerons les deux premières parties du texte, soit la partie légendaire et les chroniques. Dans la partie II, nous présenterons le texte en langue lao et sa traduction française. Nous développerons les principaux thèmes dans la partie III et les chroniques dans la partie IV. Enfin, en conclusion, nous traiterons du mythe et de sa confusion avec des mythes similaires.
    The object of the thesis is to analyse the function of a myth based on the translation of an ancient Lao chronicle and its commentary, and to proceed with a comparative study with other versions or existing theses, and to carry out a correlation with other similar myths. In the first part, he manuscript of the Khamkeut Chronicle is described and the writing and literary style is analysed. Then an inventory of the different versions of the myth is presented. Finally a summary is given of the first two parts of the text, this being the legend and the chronicles. In part II, the text in Lao language and its French translation is presented. The principal themes are developed in part III and the chronicles in part IV. Then in part V, the myth and the confusion with other similar myths is treated, before the final conclusion.
